The VTZ 1400 log saw, the first installed in France and the 28th in Europe, consists of a six-knife BM 900 slabber and a frame inclined at 17°, featuring cantilevered cast-iron wheels with a diameter of 1400 mm (225 mm double-cut blades, 1.47 mm thick, with integrated lubrication and hydraulic tensioning). A frequency converter is used for the main motor to adjust rotation and cutting speeds. Also included are a deviation sensor, a scoring unit, and a variable speed drive. The 17° inclined carriage, made of Strenx® steel, is equipped with four independent hydraulically operated clamping heads. Its distinctive feature is the Superfast Plus chain drive system, with a maximum return speed of 240 m/min. The log is automatically positioned using a scanner-based system. A Lenze industrial control PC with a 15-inch touchscreen and Ethernet connection to the PLC manages operations. Integrated log turners and flippers are included. Braking and deceleration energy is transferred to other system drives to improve energy efficiency. Instead of a pantograph for overhead cable movement, a cable carrier runs within a side channel along the carriage. Each module is installed on a robust metal subframe anchored to a concrete slab and requires no special foundations. A pit collects the sawdust, which is removed by suction and scraper. The scraper runs in a recess formed in the slab, which also collects the slabber chips.
