The French National Federation of Timber Industries (FNB) and the National Federation of Rural Contractors (FNEDT) are raising the alarm about the impact of rising fuel prices on the entire forestry and timber sector. Silvicultural work, harvesting, processing, transport, and logistics are directly affected by the soaring costs of non-road diesel (GNR) and diesel fuel, in the context of a persistent international energy crisis. According to the two organizations, this increase weakens the entire value chain and threatens the competitiveness of timber. Forestry machinery, industrial sites, and transport flows are seeing their costs rise sharply, without any support measures deemed sufficient at this stage. Faced with this situation, the FNB and FNEDT are calling for a general mobilization of companies in the sector and recommend the implementation of a systematic indexation of fuel prices. This indexation must be applied transparently and proportionally to each link in the chain, in order to reflect the actual evolution of costs and ensure the economic continuity of operations. The federations believe that this tariff adjustment is currently the main operational lever to absorb the shock of energy prices.
