The strength of family-owned sawmills has been built through the pooling of ideas, know-how and a capacity for cooperation initiated as early as the 1990s in order to gain greater influence in the softwood timber market, leading to the creation of three groups:
- Scierie des Vosges, a consortium of 10 Vosges-based sawmills aimed at pooling raw material purchasing through economies of scale and the sharing of forestry agents;
- Sélection Vosges, the first French softwood sawn timber label, a true national brand ensuring the promotion and marketing of Vosges wood, with a presence at major industry trade fairs such as Bâtimat, Carrefour du Bois and Construmat in Spain;
- Fibre Premium, a sales organization bringing together 14 sawmills across four mountain ranges (Vosges, Alps, Massif Central and Pyrenees), constituting the first French group capable of mobilizing up to 450,000 m³ of sawn timber for large-scale distributors.
